Leave No Trace at Grand Canyon Lodge, North Rim

While Leave No Trace provides a framework to help us decrease our impacts on the natural environment, some areas and activities have additional considerations. Keep the following tips in mind while exploring Grand Canyon National Park.

Within Grand Canyon National Park, there are several water sources, including the Colorado River. These water sources provide drinking water for wildlife and serve as essential habitats for various species. Properly dispose of trash to prevent water pollution.

Scenic driving tours are a great way to check out multiple sites on the north rim of the park. When stopping to admire the views or take photographs, use designated pullouts or parking areas. These spots are specifically designed to minimize impact and ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians.

The Grand Canyon is a place of great cultural significance for the 11 traditionally associated Native American tribes. Damaging, vandalizing or taking artifacts means that these communities lose a piece of their cultural heritage. If you find something cool, snap a picture instead.

Avoid using single-use, disposable plastics in the park. By opting for reusable alternatives, you’ll help preserve the environment for future generations and protect the wildlife that calls the park home. Please carry out what you bring on your adventure, and remember every action counts in maintaining the natural beauty.

Help protect the area’s incredible dark sky stargazing experience by opting for amber lighting (rather than white), which is more wildlife friendly and causes less light pollution.
